Playing In Shorts

imageI had an awesome time at the Janet Jackson concert on Friday night. Charlotte was on fire and we enjoyed every minute. When packing, my goal was sexy-comfort for the show.  The weather was great at about 85 degrees and beautifully sunny.  I was all about easy styling with my oversized cardigan (only wore a pretty bra underneath). While I wore the leopard heels to dinner, I changed into some comfy flats for the show. Never wear anything but comfortable flat shoes or sandals for concerts.  I went wild when Miss Jackson came on the stage so I needed to feel as comfortable as possible.

Still Wearing White

image

No, I don’t let go of my white after Labor Day, I just choose ‘Winter White’ and a heavier fabric. There are so many opinions when it comes to wearing white after the Summer months.

When my clients ask me about this ‘oh so controversial’ question, my advice is always…

imageChoose fabrics that go with the weather of the season that you are in. That automatically means that your selections for white will shift to off-white or Winter white. This also means heavier fabrics for warmth in the Fall & Winter. A wool-blend is most popular. So, it’s not about giving it up, it’s about shifting with the changing seasons.

I hope that with this look, you’re inspired to pair your white with some fun or abstract prints. It is such an easy combo. Dress up. Wear white. Have fun.

Second-Hand Shopping: 10 Reasons

imageIt is purchasing an item that had a previous owner.

Isn’t that simple and great?

I recently shopped the closet of one of my favorite bloggers.  Rochelle of Beauticurve, had an online sale that sold out within minutes!  I was lucky enough to score several items, including this Worthington top.  I paid $6 for it.

The best way to shop second hand is to attend second hand shopping events in your area, stay up to date with style bloggers as they sell from their closets, shopping thrift stores and consignment shops in your area, and having a personal soiree where you and your friends swap items (for free). When selecting items, be sure to choose clean and gently worn ones.

Here’s why I love second-hand shopping and why you can too:

1- It’s easier to spot gems and quality items. You don’t get lost in sorting through 10 of the same items so it’s easier for your eyes to catch what suits your style.

2- It’s budget friendly.  You don’t have to spend much but you can get a whole lot.

3-While it may no longer fit someone else’s body or style, it can be a great addition to your wardrobe.

4-Great way to get affordable brand names that you wouldn’t normally pay full price for. This is especially the case with consignment shops.

5- Adds character to your wardrobe and helps you build it, one piece at a time.

6- It can support charity, depending on where you shop. Some stores donate a portion of your purchase to a great cause or to a community organization.

7- For those working on losing weight, it helps you save money on clothes while you are experiencing changes in your size.

8- Sales, sales, sales. If someone is cleaning our their closet, chances are, the items are very affordable.

9-You can purchase out of season things to help you set your wardrobe for the next season.

10- You can make it a fun outing day with the girls, followed by a nice brunch and mimosas. Ha!

Happy Shopping!

Date Night: Blouse & Jeans

Impromptu date nights don’t leave time to fuss about what to wear.

Grab a sexy blouse, jeans and heels and you’re good to go.

I always like to add a small clutch for easy dancing, just in case.

In honor of Throwback Thursdays, yours truly is in the center.

I wore this look in the Spring  and I still love it.

How easy and confident are these looks? Very!
